Successful Applications
An essential factor of your application is demonstrating that your knowledge, skills and experience thus far meet the criteria laid out in the Person Specification. Provide evidence to show that you can meet their expectations with reference to each point in the specification to ensure you prove to your prospective employer that you have the necessary qualities to be shortlisted. Use your supporting statement to really enforce these points and maximise your chance of being called to interview. Always
- Read all literature thoroughly before beginning application
- Prepare a rough draft first
- Ensure you have related each point in Person Specification to an example of your ability in your personal statement
- Answer all questions asked of you
- Seek permission of referees before listing them
- Be specific and concise, setting out application in clear comprehensive style
- Have your application proof read by someone else, checking spelling and grammar
- Keep a copy of your application to refresh yourself before interviews and help with other applications
- Waffling and adding unnecessary information
- Including information that you can not provide evidence of in interview
- Including CV unless requested
- Sending application after closing date!!!!!
Referees
It is common to have to provide 2 referees, and is imperative to gain their permission before listing them on your application. It is usually required that you choose someone who has witnessed both your academic and teaching ability, so the most likely candidate is a tutor from your training college. It is also possible to ask a head teacher, or head of department from one of your placement schools to act as the other referee is you wish.
CRB Checks
Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau are mandatory, and you will be asked to apply for one once a position has been offered to you.
